The FEBS practical course 'Biomolecules in Action II' will focus on the latest, most applicable, and emerging bioanalytical methods applied in life sciences in order to characterize biomolecules for later studies involving novel radiation sources such as free electron lasers and complementary techniques (e.g. CryoEM).

Sample preparation is recognised to be one of the most critical issues to date in order to acquire quality data in a timely fashion. The main prerequisite for success is a thorough characterization of the biomolecule of interest with a diverse set of bioanalytical techniques. DESY, offering highly intensive synchrotron radiation, UV and X-ray Free Electron Laser Radiation in combination with scattering and spectroscopic methods, is an ideal and inspiring venue for the practical course. At DESY, all bioanalytical methods are well established with modern equipment and the location permits the possibility to work at the synchrotron beamlines sample preparation areas, creating a unique venue. The advanced course, taught by an international team of experts, offers a valuable combination of focused lectures and instructive hands-on experiments to encompass a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art techniques.
